When?
- Statehood Day is February 14, 2012. The Centennial Celebration will officially commence in September 2011, beginning with a State-sponsored event, the "Best of Arizona Festival: Prescott" to be held September 16-18, 2011 here in Prescott, and continuing Statewide and locally through the end of 2012.
Who is invited?
- Every interested group, business, and organization, large or small, profit or non-profit, old or new - is invited to participate. All are encouraged to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their talents and mission to community members and visitors.
Why participate?
- Educate folks about your group's mission, goals, growth, accomplishments, and contributions to the community over the years
- Stimulate support for your group, business, or organization through attendance, membership, volunteering, resources, contributions and the like.
- Your project or event can help encourage visitors to come here and to learn about the history, beauty, culture, natural resources, and activities in our City.
What can you do?
- Legacy Projects - create something that is educational, historically significant, and will endure beyond the celebration. Erect a monument, plant a tree or a garden, publish a book, fix up a trail, found a group.... you decide!
- Special Events - attract sizable audiences or participants, and relate to history, cultural interests, contributions, etc. These can be performances, demonstrations, festivals, re-enactments, rides, parades, conferences, fairs, or other large events.
- Whatever you decide to do, the City Centennial Committee will assist as possible. Although funding is not available, the Committee will support your activity through project guidance, venue suggestions, referral to volunteer assistance, promotional activities, and the like.
How to get started?
- What kind of activity would best showcase your group?
- What would people be attracted to?
- What annual or regular event do you conduct that could be focused on a Centennial theme?
- Might you want to collaborate with like-minded groups with similar purposes or goals?
- Who could you involve in planning?
- Who would be your target recipients, participants, or audiences?
- What time of year would work well for you?
- What venue would be well-suited and available?
Where?
- The City Centennial Committee is focusing primarily on support for organizations that are located in Prescott and/or whose Centennial activities will take place within the City.
